New Delhi: Alleging Andhra Pradesh government of "hastily" executing a lift irrigation project that may put Polavaram multi-purpose project in cold storage, opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday sought the Prime Minister to direct Chandrababu Naidu-led dispensation to stall the project.
The YSR Congress Party chief, who led his party MPs to meet Narendra Modi in New Delhi, presented a memorandum to the Prime Minister, in which he alleged that the state government expressed undue haste in awarding tender work for the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project.
"With tailor made pre conditions to select the contractor of their choice the state government awarded tenders at an excess of 21.9 per cent," Mr Reddy charged.
Opposing the project implemented by AP government, he wondered why the state was pushing for the project when Polavaram project, which is a national project, could be completed in three years.
Briefing reporters after meeting the Prime Minister, Mr Reddy said that he appraised Modi about the lift irrigation project.
"We have told our apprehensions. If this thing goes through, we are only scared that the Polavaram project would come to a cold storage. We do not want that to happen," he said.
He also said that the YSRCP MPs have urged Prime Minister to enhance funds for the Polavaram project for fast tracking it.
This apart, the memorandum also sought all assurances made in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act to be implemented at the earliest.
