Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao's strategic silence for the last two months is exposing the weakness of other Telangana forces which are unable to take the movement forward.
Ever since the Sakala Janula Samme ended, Rao has been maintaining silence and busy attending to his personal work. He is spending most of his time at his farm house.
Rao is anticipating that the Centre will spell out its stand on Telangana in the second week of January and will decide on taking the movement forward after the Centre's move. Accordingly, he has advised party leaders and cadres not to react on any issue. Respecting his advice, party leaders undertook a padayatra without giving it much publicity.
The Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) is also following TRS chief's directions and is busy with internal programs and reducing its public posturing significantly.
Strangely but understandably, all political parties and organisations in the region have kept silent for the last few months, confining their activities to organising programmes in a perfunctory manner. The Sakala Janula Samme ended in the last week of October and after that no Telangana organisation has come forward to take the movement forward.
The Telugu Desam Party is challenging the TRS and Rao, though feebly, but is yet to take up any programme worthwhile. As for the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), it has never been aggressive on the issue. It has confined itself to organising meetings and inviting national leaders.
Leaders of the Congress, Telangana Praja Front (TPF), Telangana United Front (TUF), and other organisations have also failed to take advantage of the silence of the TRS chief and lead the movement. Nearly 60 Telangana organisations are working for the cause of statehood and, curiously, all of them are maintaining silence.
One TJAC leader said that K Chandrashekhar Rao had become a champion of the Telangana cause and people of the region were not ready to trust other parties.
