Five people, including a woman, were crushed by a train after they got off another train that had stopped midway, in a horrific accident in Andhra Pradesh last night. One person was severely injured and is now currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
The passengers had deboarded the train after it was stopped midway near Srikakulam, about 900 kms from state capital Amravati.
According to officials, the five were the passengers of the Secunderabad-Guwahati Superfast Express, which had stopped midway at a village in Srikakulam district. They got off the train and were on the next railway track when they were run over by the Bhubaneshwar-bound Konark Express coming from the opposite direction.
The injured person has been shifted to a hospital in Srikakulam. Investigators are waiting to record his statement on why they stopped the train and got off.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed grief over the accident. He directed the district authorities to provide relief and ensure proper medical care to the injured.
