Marginal drop in number of voters in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: The total number of voters in Andhra Pradesh this year has come down by about 12 lakh compared to last year following revision, officials said today.

The number of electors as per final publication on January 5 last year was 5,69,60,291, while it was 5,57,63,428 as per the final roll published as of January 10 this year.

"The previous electoral rolls were cleaned up by weeding out the names of the dead as also those who had shifted or by removing duplicate entries totalling around 39.57 lakhs," State Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal told reporters here.

The number of male voters this year at 2,78,48,792 is marginally lower compared to the number of female voters at2,79,14,616.

Interestingly, there are only 20 transgender voters in the state and the reason for such a low number could be that many of them might have registered either as male or female, he said, adding no special provision existed for enrolling the voters as transgender last year, like this year.

About 28 lakhs voters have been added, he said, adding the state has achieved 100 per cent photo coverage of voters.
