Minister eats Railway food, likes it too

Hyderabad: Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi was all praise for the quality of food served at the Food Plaza on Platform No. 1 of the Secunderabad railway station during his maiden visit on Monday.

The minister, on his first ever visits to the South Central Railway, not only enquired about the quality of food being served at the Food Plaza but also tasted it to convince himself.

He also had a close look at the passenger amenities provided on the platforms _ passenger information systems, Automatic Ticket Vending Machines, signage boards, waiting halls, ticket counters, etc. He inspected the recently done track apron works, cleanliness and maintenance of the station premises.

After interacting with the railway staff and passengers, he expressed his satisfaction over passenger amenities and maintenance and cleanliness of the premises.

Praising the Secunderabad as a model railway station, he announced a cash award of Rs 50,000 to the station staff.

He said two lifts and two escalators would be provided and the infrastructure upgraded at the Secunderabad station shortly. On Multi Modal Transport System PhaseII, he said the Railway Board would decide soon.

REVIEW MEETING: Earlier, Trivedi held a performance review meeting at the zonal headquarters, Rail Nilayam, with South Central Railway's general manager GN Asthana and principal heads of departments. Asthana made a PowerPoint presentation on South Central Railway's performance during April November.

Trivedi made detailed enquiries about various performance parameters like freight loading, financial performance, safety, passenger amenities, line capacity, infrastructure improvement, etc., as also on the steps required to further improve the safety and finances of the railways.

He reviewed the loading in various streams of freight traffic and suggested a churning in revenue mix to maximise the earnings.
