Hyderabad: A police complaint has been filed against Telugu actor and legislator N Balakrishna for his comments on women at a film function in Hyderabad on Friday.
At an audio release function of Telugu film Savitri, Mr Balakrishna said his fans won't accept if he simply chased women. "I must either kiss or get them pregnant," he said, as women on stage appeared visibly uncomfortable.
The 56-year-old actor is a Telugu Desam Party legislator from Hindupur and the brother-in-law of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He is also the father-in-law of Mr Naidu's son Lokesh.
The comment has provoked angry reactions from YSR Congress leader Roja and several others. "If such senior leaders don't respect women, no wonder status of women is what it is. He must apologise," Mr Roja said.
On Monday, Mr Balakrishna apologised saying he had only articulated what he thought were expectations of fans and had not meant to humiliate any woman.
The police says they would examine the legal provisions before filing a First Information Report.
