Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today announced Rs 15 crore for the welfare of families of policemen in the state.

This is in addition to the Rs 10 crore announced last year by him for the welfare of kin of the security personnel.

"The state government always stands for the welfare of policemen and their families. The cops lose their sleep to ensure that people have a sound sleep," Mr Naidu said on the Police Commemoration Day in Vijayawada.

"Law and order are important for the economic prosperity of the state and it is the responsibility of the police to maintain it," he said.

The state police has successfully curbed the activities of extremists, political factionists and anti-social elements, the CM said while asking the security personnel to maintain the same trend in future also.

On the occasion, rich tributes were paid to 443 police officials who lost their lives across the country, including 14 who died in AP, while on duty in the last one year.
