Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had said notes ban was a moral victory for his party.

A day after his widely reported comments on currency ban, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP ally Chandrababu Naidu today clarified that he was not opposed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ban on 500- and 1,000-rupee notes, but was only expressing his concern about the "suffering of the people".
Denying the reports in a section of media, he said he had only commented on the lapses in implementation of currency ban - the suffering of the people after more than one month due to the non-availability of currency. It is very painful to see reports of old people collapsing while waiting at ATM counters, he said.
Mr Naidu -- an early supporter of the Central government's currency ban to unearth black money -- was quoted as telling his legislators and men of his Telugu Desam Party that he was worried that there is no end in sight to the resulting cash crunch.
"Have seen big crises like Cyclone Hudhud and we resolved them, but demonetisation we are not able to since it is not fully in our control," he had said.
On November 8, when PM Modi announced the cash ban, Mr Naidu had taken credit for the idea. He had claimed to be the one who petitioned the Prime Minister for such a step to stop corruption. The notes ban, he had tweeted, was a moral victory for the TDP.
Mr Naidu heads the panel set up by the Centre to look into issues arising from currency ban. His party is part of the NDA government.
Today, he said he was spending more than three to four hours a day monitoring the cash distribution system. He has even asked officials to think innovatively to address the crisis.
