Sri Ram Navmi was celebrated with devotion and traditional gaiety across Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
People offered prayers at homes and in temples of Lord Rama across the state in the morning and consumed 'vadapappu' (moong dal soaked in water) and 'Panakam' (Jaggery, powder of black pepper and cardamom mixed in water) as 'Prasadam'.
The main celebration of Sri Ram Navmi in Andhra Pradesh was organised at the famous Rama temple on the banks of Godavari river at Bhadrachalam.
'Sita Rama Kalyanam' (celestial wedding of Lord Rama and Sita) was performed by priests at the Mithula stadium and the event was witnessed by a host of VIPs and an estimated three lakh devotees.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy presented the 'Pattu Vasthralu' (Silk Cloths) and 'Mutyala Talambralu' (Pearls) to the Lord as per the custom. State Endowments Minister C Ramachandraiah, several other ministers and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Chairman and Congress MPK Bapiraju were among those who attended the event.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister announced that Rs 25.5 crore would be released for development of Bhadrachalam.
In Hyderabad, a 'Shobha Yatra' (religious procession) was taken out as part of Sri Ram Navmi celebrations amid adequate security arrangements.
