New Delhi: A 14-year-old girl, who had set herself on fire over alleged sexual abuse by her school teacher, has died at a private hospital in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, police said today.
The girl, class VIII student at a private school in Banaganapalli mandal, died at the hospital last night, they said.
"The girl set herself ablaze on October 21 and was initially admitted to a government hospital and later to a private hospital. Her father lodged a complaint with police alleging that Abdullah, one of her teachers, sexually abused her, and due to which she resorted to the extreme step," Banaganapalli police station Inspector Srinivas told the Press Trust of India.
Abdullah allegedly sexually abused her in February this year. He was subsequently suspended by the school management, the inspector said.
A case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the accused has been detained, he said. Further probe is on.
