Mumbai:
An 18-year-old girl from Andhra Pradesh allegedly committed suicide on Thursday by hanging herself in her hotel room at suburban Andheri, police said.
Ranjala Kusuma Shrisambhavi was found hanging to the ceiling fan with her dupatta at around 10 am in her room in Hotel Highway Residency by an attender, they said.
Ranjala's family had registered a missing person complaint at a police station in Andhra Pradesh on March 3 after she did not return home.
According to police, she had checked into the hotel on Tuesday at around 1.30 pm saying she had come to Mumbai for the purpose of attending an interview.
"The reason for the extreme step is not known. A suicide note written in Hindi as well as in Telugu is found in the room. She held nobody responsible for her death and stated that her body be handed over to her mother," a police officer at Vile Parle police station told Press Trust of India (PTI).
While checking into the hotel, Ranjala mentioned her address as Qutubullapur, Rajahmundry of Andhra Pradesh. Ranjala had dinner last night and when today morning, the hotel reception called her up on the intercom in her room to inquire if she wanted to extend her stay, she did not attend the calls.
Subsequently, an attender went to the room when he found her hanging, police said.
"We managed to track down her address. Her family has been informed about the incident. Ranjala's mother and brother are coming to Mumbai. Her family had registered a missing person complaint in a police station in Andhra Pradesh on March 3 after she did not return home," the officer said.
