Telugu New Year celebrated in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: The Telugu New Year 'Ugadi', named'Nandana' this year, was yesterday celebrated with traditionalfervour and devotion across the state.

Speaking at a function on the occasion, Andhra PradeshChief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said that the WorldTelugu Convention will be held in the temple town of Tirupatiin December.

In the morning, people consumed Ugadi 'pachadi'(chutney), which is made of tamarind juice, pieces ofsugarcane, neem flowers, chilly powder, and pieces of rawmango. Fruits like banana and grapes can also be added to it.

The 'pachadi' symbolises the six flavours of life:sweet, bitter, sour, saline, spicy and caustic.

Dressed in traditional attire, people thronged templesacross the state. Famous temples of Tirupati VenkateswaraSwami, Lord Shiva in Srisailam, Lord Rama in Bhadrachalam andothers witnessed a heavy rush of devotees.

'Panchanga Sravanam' (listening to the almanac for theyear) was performed in temples and also homes as part of Ugadirituals.

The Ugadi, including 'Panchanga Sravanam', wascelebrated at the offices of Congress, Telugu Desam and BJP.

The Chief Minister, actor-turned-politician and newly-elected Congress Rajya Sabha member Chiranjeevi and APCongress President Botsa Satyanarayana attended thecelebrations at Gandhi Bhavan, the state party headquarters.
