The Tiruppavai stanzas would be recited in place of 'Suprabhatham' hymns by priests in the wee hours daily at the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala during the month ofDhanurmasam from December 17 to January 14.
The Tiruppavai is a 30-stanza song in praise of Lord Vishnu. It was compiled in Tamil language by Sri Andal, a saint-poet and the only female Alwar of 12 Alwars and recited during Dhanurmasam at the temple in accordance with centuries-old practice, temple sources told PTI.
The devotees would not be allowed into the temple during the recitation of Tiruppavai, the sources said.
The Suprabhatham recital would be resumed only from January 15, the sources added.
The Alwars were Tamil poet-saints of South India who lived between the sixth and ninth centuries AD.
