Weeks After Son's Death In School, Couple Allegedly Commits Suicide

A case of death due to negligence was filed recently against the school principal and two caretakers.

A couple whose son died six weeks ago committed suicide in Guntur in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, on Vaikunta Ekadasi, considered one of the most auspicious days of the year.

Chandrasekhar Rao and Naveena were found hanging in their home.

They were said to be shattered by the death on November 22 of their only son, Vamsi Krishna, a Class 9 student at a private corporate high school.

In recent weeks, the couple had reportedly stopped interacting with friends or relatives. On Sunday, they performed a puja and hung themselves.

14-year-old Krishna died at his school hostel, reportedly of viral fever. He had been unwell for three days.

His parents accused the school of not informing them about his condition until it was too late.

For weeks, the grieving parents sat outside the school building along with relatives and friends, demanding action against the management.

Chandrasekhar Rao visited the police almost every day, asking why the principal and others involved had not been arrested.

"We were waiting for forensic reports from the laboratory to take some action,'' said district police chief Sarvashreshta Tripathi, denying any delay in taking action.
