Bangalore:
For the third day in a row, parents of students at the Vibgyor High School in Bangalore received sms-es alerting them that the school would remain closed.
Yesterday, a roller-skating instructor was arrested for allegedly raping a six-year-old student within the school's premises on July 2.
The allegations have enraged the city and turned the area outside the school into a province of protests. Today, the police clashed through the morning with demonstrators of the BJP's youth wing, the ABVP, for trying to force their way past barricades.
The 30-year-old instructor who was arrested and is due in a local court today allegedly had child pornography on the laptop that was taken from him, said the police commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar.
"He is married and has a three-year-old child too," he said.
Police said the girl had complained of the attack to a teacher at Vibgyor High School. But her parents only learned of the incident a week later when she shared details with them.
The child was allegedly assaulted in a classroom at the school, a top fee-paying institution favoured by local politicians and businessmen. The instructor supervised roller-skating activities for the students as part of the school's sports programme.
