Bangalore:
Parents in Bangalore have reacted angrily at being asked to sign a form that says that schools and their staff are not responsible for the safety of students. The order comes days after the alleged sexual assault of a Class 1 student in an upscale international school.
Many top schools have asked parents to sign the form that says that when their child participates in events organized by the school - including field trips, excursions and camps - the staff or teachers of the school can't be held responsible for "damage to loss of property, sickness or injury from 'whatever source' legal entanglements, loss of life or money..."
Some schools have been accused of threatening to expel students whose parents went to the media.
This follows two incidents that raised questions about the safety of children in the city's schools.
Two weeks ago, a six-year-old child was allegedly raped by two gym instructors in school.
Last week, another six-year-old in another school was picked up from school by her own aunt who later murdered her over a family dispute.
