Ahead of the Ayodhya verdict which will be delivered tomorrow in Lucknow, the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi have both appealed to people to keep calm once the judgement is announced.
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court will rule on the disputed site at Ayodhya and what existed first - a temple for Lord Ram or the Babri Masjid.
"There should be no attempt whatsoever made by any section of people to provoke any other section or to indulge in any expression of emotion that would hurt the feelings of other people," the PM said in an appeal published in almost all leading newspapers.
"The determination of the issues need not necessarily end with this judgement, unless it is accepted by all parties. In case any of the parties feels that further judicial consideration is required, there are legal remedies available, which could be resorted to," he added.
Sonia Gandhi has also issued a statement. "We all know that the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court will be giving its judgement on a sensitive issue. Along with this, we know that almost the entire country has expressed its willingness to accept the judgement by imposing faith in the impartiality of the judiciary," she said.
"Unity in diversity and a composite culture is our most precious heritage and legacy," the Congress president said.
