Mumbai:
Board of Control for Cricket in India president N Srinivasan will not quit over his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan's alleged role in betting, sources close to him have told NDTV. They said the BCCI chief will wait for the on-going probe's results before contemplating any further move. He is, for now, headed to Kolkata to attend the remaining IPL games.
Mr Meiyappan, who is the 'team principal' of IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings, has been summoned for questioning today by the Mumbai Police following statements made by small-time actor Vindoo Dara Singh. Vindoo has been arrested for his alleged links with bookies involved in the IPL-6 spot-fixing scandal.
Vindoo has claimed that he bet on IPL matches on behalf of Mr Meiyappan.
Mr Srinivasan has denied having any knowledge of his son-in-law's alleged betting activities.
Sports Minister Jitendra Singh, on being asked whether Mr Srinivasn should step down, today said, "these are moral issues and the individual needs to think himself."
Mr Srinivasan, apart from being BCCI president is the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of India Cements, which owns Chennai Super Kings.
Chennai Super Kings sources today said that Mr Meiyappan has no formal designation in the team and that he knew Vindoo through his film world links. Mr Meiyappan is part of the AVM family, which owns one of the oldest studios and production business in south India.
