Tropical cyclonic storm Phailin, classified as 'very severe', made its landfall near Gopalpur on Odisha coast on Saturday night with wind speed of around 200 km per hour.
As the cyclone loses its ferocity and the morning after clears the air, it seems the coastal areas in northern Andhra Pradesh managed to escape the fury of Phailin, which prompted India's biggest evacuation in 23 years with more than eight lakh people moved up from the coastline in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to safer places. "There is no human loss reported as of now. Weather is very much normal," Saurabh Gaur, District Collector of Srikakulam told NDTV.
At Visakhapatnam, no overnight rains were reported. The road above the city's Ramakrishna Beach was full of morning walkers. Small fishing boats could be seen out on the waters under a grey sky. (

Andhra Pradesh's relief commissioner T Radha said, "Things are almost normal. Though there was some damage to horticultural crops like banana, the rains at this time of the year may actually end up being a double bonus for agriculture."
