Demand in Rajya Sabha for a Comprehensive Plan to Clean Rivers

New Delhi: A demand for a detailed plan for launching cleanliness drive in all rivers including Ganga was made in the Rajya Sabha today.
   
"Make a comprehensive plan to clean the rivers including the Ganga in the country," demanded Saif-ud-Din Soz (Cong) in his special mention during Zero Hour.
   
Ambeth Rajan (BSP) demanded scaling up of sanitation coverage, including toilet facilities, to people across the country while Rajeev Chandrasekhar (Ind) stressed the need for a nation-wide audit of the mid-day meal scheme.
   
In his special mention, Jairam Ramesh (Congress) urged the government to take immediate steps to grant special category status to Andhra Pradesh, while Wansuk Syiem of the same party sought inclusion of Khasi and Garo language in the eight schedule to the Constitution.
  
"Take effective measures to check crime against passengers, particularly women in North-East bound trains in the country," said Pankaj Bora (Cong) in his mention.
   
Bhupinder Singh (BJD) in his special mention said there is need to provide good and quality education to children aimed at removing all social evils from the society.
   
K R Arjunan (AIADMK) sought central assistance to set up transmission infrastructure in Tamil Nadu for evacuation of power generated from renewable energy sources.
   
In his special mention, S Thangavelu (DMK) demanded urgent steps to complete railway projects in southern part of Tamil Nadu.
   
Tarun Vijay (BJP) demanded tabling the Second Scheduled Areas and Scheduled Tribes Commission Report in Parliament.
   
K N Balagopal (CPI-M) said there is a need to open food outlets at affordable prices in international airports for low income group travelers, while Tiruchi Siva (DMK) expressed
concern over the alarming situation due to global warming and climate change.
   
In their mentions, Avtar Singh Karimpuri (BSP) sought steps to reduce increasing difference in sex ratio, while Avinash Rai Khanna (BJP) demanded naming a national highway
after Swami Vivekananda on his 150th birth anniversary.
