New Delhi:
Nagaland Governor Ashwani Kumar has become the third governor to cooperate with the government by delivering his resignation.
Mr Kumar, a former chief of the CBI, was appointed governor of Nagaland in March last year.
The new BJP government had circled a dozen governors appointed by the previous government that it wants to replace with its own nominees.
In recent weeks, UP Governor BL Joshi and Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt have exited office.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh today did not rule out that the BJP may appoint their replacements before the budget session of Parliament begins on July 7.
"I cannot rule out appointment of governors before Parliament session beginning July 7," he said.
Among the governors who the BJP wants to eject, Sheila Dikshit is reportedly pushing back. She was appointed Governor of Kerala in March, months after she led the Congress to a humiliating third place in the Delhi state election, ending her three back-to-back terms as Chief Minister.
