Women lawyers demand action on a lawyer's allegation that she was sexually harassed by Supreme Court judge
New Delhi:
A young lawyer who blogged that she was sexually harassed by a Supreme Court judge testified on Monday for three judges from the top court who are investigating her allegations.
The woman reportedly deposed for two hours this evening.
Earlier in the day, a group of women lawyers had protested near the court, demanding that a police case be registered on the basis of her allegations.
The woman has not named the judge either in her blog or in her interview with Legally India, a website that covers legal news, but has said that he is now retired.
She said that she was interning for this judge when he harassed her in a hotel room in December.
Last week, the Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam said that he was disturbed by the allegations and that a committee of three judges will meet her in person and investigate her charges.
The police have initiated a preliminary inquiry based on a former Delhi University lecturer's complaint based on the first intern's blog. Professor SN Singh, ex-dean of the Faculty of Law, has demanded an independent police investigation; he says the judges' inquiry is in-house and has no legal sanctity.
Sources say the police are waiting for the woman's corroboration of the alleged incident.
