Bangalore:
Barely a month after protests raged across Bangalore following the alleged rape of a six-year-old in school, two men were arrested in yet another school for alleged sexual assault on a child.
The men, a temporary teacher and the principal of the private school in south Bangalore, are in custody.
Investigations are still on, but it appears that no background check was done while hiring the temporary teacher. The man, apparently unqualified for the job, was a long-time friend of the principal.
The new state guidelines to ensure the safety of children maintain that retired teachers may be hired as temporary teachers in case of staff shortage. But there is no provision for hiring unqualified people.
The child's family claims other children were molested as well.
"For the last 15 days my grand-daughter has been telling us that a teacher with one eye has been putting the children in a room and doing things," the child's grandmother told NDTV. "I thought since it was a teacher, maybe he was just playing with the children."
But after hearing similar stories from other children, the family took the matter seriously. They filed a complaint and say they will be removing the child from the school.
Today, the school remained closed after the arrest of its principal - although some children had turned up in the morning.
