New Delhi:
After Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, it was the turn of RJD chief Lalu Prasad today to visit the camps of riot victims in Muzaffarnagar.
Mr Prasad was critical of the Samajwadi Party government headed by Akhilesh Yadav, saying that the it should have done more for the riot victims.
"We must help riot victims of Muzaffarnagar... Authorities did not help riot victims as much as they should have," he said.
Mr Prasad also said that our country should not be divided along communal lines.
The RJD chief, whose party is expected to have an alliance with the Congress for the next Lok Sabha polls, had left for Muzaffarnagar early morning.
Mr Prasad was expected to visit half a dozen relief camps inhabited by members of the Muslim community.
He is considered a popular leader among the community and his party RJD had been in power in Bihar for 15 years largely on the basis of MY (Muslim-Yadav) combination.
Mr Prasad, who had arrested BJP leader LK Advani during the Ram Janambhoomi movement in the 1990s, has been projecting himself to be a true secular and talking about playing a larger role in halting the march of Narendra Modi-led BJP.
His visit comes a week after Mr Gandhi made an unannounced visit to the riot-hit areas of Muzaffarnagar district and relief camps to meet the affected people.
