Sexual harassment case: Why did Supreme Court wash its hands off the matter, asks Kapil Sibal

New Delhi: Retired Supreme Court judge AK Ganguly is accused of sexually harassing an intern at a five-star hotel in Delhi last December, a charge substantiated by a top court panel which concluded yesterday that he indulged in "unwelcome verbal/non-verbal conduct of sexual nature."
  • I have tolerated a lot. Don't disturb me.
Justice AK Ganguly, Retired Supreme Court judge 6/12/2013
  • They (Supreme Court) have given some kind of prima facie observation that sexual overtures were made. In that case, why did they wash their hands off the matter? Otherwise the Supreme court is so proactive while dealing with ordinary citizens.
Kapil Sibal, Union Law Minister 6/12/2013
  • Supreme Court on the administrative side may not have the power to deal with a retired Judge. It could certainly do so on the judicial side.
Arun Jaitley, BJP leader and senior lawyer 6/12/2013
  • Law will take its own course. Why does not the girl complain? He is not under any obligation to resign. If you feel so strongly, why don't you go file an FIR?
    Ram Jethmalani, Senior advocate 6/12/2013
  • I have urged Mr Ganguly to resign from the (West Bengal) Human Rights Commission.
Derek O'Brien, Trinamool Congress leader 6/12/2013
  • If someone is accused of something, its up to him to take a moral decision. Whether he wants to set an example or not depends on him.
Wajahat Habibullah, Chairman, National Minority Commission 6/12/2013
  • There are reports that his behavior was not at all welcoming. I believe that some kind of step should be taken against him. NCW will definitely take an action. If police is doing its work then we will welcome it.
Mamta Sharma, Chairperson, National Commission for Women 6/12/2013
