The Indian Railways has ordered an inquiry into the use of paper cups - carrying photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah - to serve tea to passengers in the Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express.
"Prima facie, it seems a mistake. If it is proved that this was done deliberately, action will be taken against the guilty," said Neeraj Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway.
A few days ago, paper cups carrying photographs of PM Modi and Mr Shah along with an appeal to join the BJP, were found lying on the floor of Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express.
It seems to have been a mistake by the supply staff, Mr Sharma said. The cups, meant for use by the BJP, were supplied to serve tea and coffee to the passengers.
Local Congress leader Virender Sharma attacked the NDA government over this issue.
With the Delhi assembly elections around the corner, the BJP, he said, was misusing trains like Shatabdi. The Prime Minister, he alleged, was setting a wrong precedence.
