Traffic jams brought Delhi to a standstill after continuous rains since the morning
New Delhi: Continuous rains in the national capital today led to water logging at various places and traffic jams, causing problems for the commuters.
Traffic jams were reported from many parts of the city, including Dhaula Kuan, Ashram, Nehru Place, Panchsheel, Mahipalpur near the Indira Gandhi International airport and ITO junction, according to Delhi Traffic police.
The traffic was also reported to be heavy and moving slow in Amar Colony, Okhla, Wazirabad areas and on NH8. Many areas in east Delhi were virtually under water.
Two-wheeler riders were seen taking refuge under the flyovers and the foot-over-bridges to escape the rains, causing problems for other motorists as their scooters and motorcycles blocked a portion of the roads.
People took to social media to warn fellow commuters and express their frustration.
The city woke up to rainy morning today and it rained through the day.
"The city recorded 7.9 mm of rainfall till 5.30 pm," a meteorological official said.
Heavy rains last evening left roads in various areas submerged in knee-deep water, due to which traffic moved at a slow speed.
