In a tragic irony, two persons who were caught in turbulent waters in a canal here escaped from drowning today while two others who jumped into the canal to rescue them drowned.
Shyam (23) and Shaju (41) lost their lives during their bid to rescue two others who were caught in turbulent waters at Monippally here, police said today.
Both the deceased hail from Monipally in the district.
Meanwhile, the persons who were caught in the turbulent waters emerged safe.
