Puducherry: The opposition Congress here today announced a "massive rally" would be held here on February 6 to protest against the recent hike in the Value Added Tax (VAT) imposed by the territorial government on various consumer commodities.
A V Subramanian, President of the PCC organising the rally, that a large number of volunteers from different wings of the party, legislators, former ministers and others would take part in the rally.
The increase in VAT structure should be withdrawn as merchants were already reeling under the strain placed by the drop in the flow of tourists to Puducherry in the aftermath of the Thane cyclone, Subramanian said.
