Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Iqbal Singh named R Chandhrasekaran, Deputy Director of Civil Supplies in Karaikal, as Regional Administrator in Yanam, an enclave of the Union Territory located in Andhra Pradesh, which recently witnessed labour unrest that left two dead.
Chandrasekaran has been shifted to his new post with immediate effect, an official release said.
Two persons -- a trade union leader and an official of a private factory -- were killed in the violence at the factory site on January 27. While the trade union leader was killed allegedly in police firing, the official was killed in retaliatory action allegedly by the factory workers.
The post of Regional Administrator in Yanam had been looked after by an official of the Revenue Department under in-charge assignment after previous incumbent P Jawahar was shifted to Andaman and Nicobar Islands in December last year.
