A functionary of dalit-based Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi was today hacked to death by a
gang near here, police said.
A five-strong gang chased and hacked Rangaiyyan, Nagore town secretary of VCK, to death at the Ammal Chathiram area, while he was with five of his friends.
While Rangaiyyan (33) died on the spot, two of his friends sustained serious injuries, police said.
Meanwhile, a large number of VCK cadre staged road blockades at two places in the town demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. The agitation was withdrawn following assurances from senior police officials that the guilty would be arrested.
