Aizawl: An electorate of 6,86,305 voters would exercise their franchise in the December 4 Assembly polls in Mizoram, state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashwini Kumar said today.
Out of 1,126 polling stations, 94 were declared 'critical'.
With the announcement of election schedule in five states, including Mizoram, by the Election Commission, the model code of conduct came into force in the state from today.
Mr Kumar said while many ongoing works would be allowed to continue, government programmes like MNREGS and disbursement of money to beneficiaries under the New Land Use Policy (NLUP), the flagship programme of the Congress government, would not be allowed.
MPs and MLAs would also be prohibited to disburse their area development funds forthwith, he said.
Voter slips would be given to all the voters enlisted in the electoral rolls through the booth level officers before the polling day, Mr Kumar said, adding that this would help exercise of franchise by the eligible voters.
He said the state election department has asked for 31 companies of central para-military forces over and above what was being deployed in the state, including eight battalions of the state armed police.
The Election Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath is likely to visit Mizoram during the next week to oversee the poll preparedness in the state, the CEO said.
Notification for the assembly polls in Mizoram would be issued on November 9 and polling to be held on December 4 while counting of votes would be conducted on December 8.
