75 of the 90 New Legislators of Haryana are Crorepatis, Says Report

Seven of the new legislators of Haryana have declared assets worth over Rs 50 crore.

New Delhi: A whopping 83% of Haryana's new legislators - 75 of the 90 - are crorepatis. And that includes 40 of the 47 BJP members and 14 of the 15 members from Congress, says a report by NGO Association for Democratic Reforms.

Seven of the legislators have declared assets worth over Rs 50 crore.

The richest of them is BJP's Vipul Goyal from Faridabad, who has assets worth around Rs 106 crore.

But he could be trounced if the assets of the second and third persons on the list are combined. Kuldeep Bishnoi from Hisar's Adampur, the chief of Haryana Janhit Congress, has declared assets worth Rs 80 crore. His wife Renuka, the legislator from Hisar's Hansi, owns assets worth Rs 80 crore.

Mr Goyal's annual income is Rs 2 crore and he also tops the list of candidates with most liabilities - worth Rs 43 crore.

The total assets of Captain Abhimanyu Singh, said to be the frontrunner for the Chief Minister's post, is Rs 77 crore. His annual income is Rs 93 lakh. He is the fourth richest member.

The "poorest" MLA is BJP's Kulwant  Bazigar from SC constituency Gumla - with assets worth Rs 61 lakh.

Altogether, 15 winners have declared liabilities of Rs 1 crore and more. Twelve of the winners have not filed income tax details, but some of them may be exempt from it.

In 2009, the percentage of crorepati members was 75, which meant only 66 in the 90-member House. The wealth of the 21 re-elected members has grown by Rs 9.80 crore - a hefty 245% - on an average.
