8 TMC-Congress supporters, 1 CPI(M) activist injured in clash

Midnapore: Eight Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress supporters including an election agent were injured in a clash with CPI(M) activists at the Salidiha village in West Midnapore district on Thursday, police sources said.

The injured Trinamool Congress and Congress supporters have been admitted to the Midnapore Medical College Hospital while the injured CPI(M) activist has been admitted to the Keshpur Public Health Centre, they said.

The TMC and Congress sources alleged that their supporters including Ghorai were beaten up by CPI(M) cadres when they went to the Salidiha village to enquire about the ransacking of the house of TMC supporter Sanatan Khara on Wednesday night by CPI(M) cadres.

As soon as Ghorai and other supporters reached the village, they were attacked by CPI(M) cadres, they alleged.

The CPI(M) refuted the TMC and Congress allegations and instead claimed that the TMC and Congress supporters were beaten up by the villagers.

Elections to the Keshpur assembly seat in West Midnapore district would be held during the fifth phase of the assembly election on May 7.
