Indore: A total of 89 candidates are now left for nine seats in the Indore district of Madhya Pradesh, after withdrawal of candidature by 20 people, for the November 25 Assembly elections.
Today was the last day for withdrawal of nominations in Madhya Pradesh, official sources said, adding that a candidate's nomination papers were rejected during scrutiny on November 9, official sources said in Indore.
Those who withdrew their nominations include rebel Congress leader Surjeet Singh Chaddha, who had filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate from Indore-4 seat, they said, adding the official Congress candidate from this seat is Suresh Minda.
However, from Indore-1 seat, Congress rebel leader Kamlesh Kumar Khandelwal declined to withdraw his candidature despite frenetic efforts by Congress leaders.
Out of nine seats in the district, six are presently being represented by the ruling BJP, while the remaining three are with the Congress.
