Alliance with NCP in final stages, says Maharashtra CM

Mumbai: Breaking the suspense over the Congress-NCP alliance for Maharashtra Assembly polls, state Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Friday told NDTV in an exclusive interview that the alliance with NCP is in final stages.

Ashok Chavan made it very clear that the Congress will fight more seats this time, keeping what they call 'ground realities' in mind.

This comes on a day that the Congress appointed 'go-it-alone' advocate Vilasrao Deshmukh as the head of its committee for Assembly elections.

However, Chavan said further: "If alliance doesn't work out, we'll fight alone."

According to NDTV sources Congress has offered 115 Assembly seats to its alliance partner NCP after factoring in delimitation, some in the Congress want to offer even less, around 110 or so. However, the NCP wants more.
