Trends from Chhattisgarh at around 4.30 pm showed a neck and neck battle with the ruling BJP leading at 25 and and the opposition Congress in 24 seats in the 90-member state Assembly. The two parties have won 19 seats each so far.
As the BJP wins Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi, incumbent Chief Minister Raman Singh is hoping for a third term in the state and a 4-0 clean sweep for his party.
Mr Singh today defeated his Congress opponent Alka Mudaliyar in Rajnandgaon constituency by 35,866 votes. Alka is the wife of Congress leader Uday Mudliar, who was killed in the Darbha Naxal attack.
The BJP's Santosh Bafna has defeated Shamu Kashyap of Congress by a margin of 16,658 votes in the Naxal-hit Jagdalpur constituency.
The Congress' Baghel Lakheshwar has won from another Naxal-affected constituency, Bastar, defeating his BJP rival Subhaoo Kashyap by over 19000 votes. In May, more than 25 people, many of them Congress leaders, were killed in a Naxal attack in this part of the state.
The BJP had 50 seats against the 38 seats of the Congress in the outgoing assembly.
