Assembly Polls: April 13 declared a public holiday in Puducherry

Puducherry: The Puducherry government has declared April 13 a public holiday for all government offices, institutions, local bodies and other commercial institutions to enable employees and others cast votes for assembly polls.
   
A Gazetted Home department notification said Lt Governor has declared the day a public holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act. It will also be a paid holiday for daily wage workers in various departments of the administration, it said.
  
The Department of Revenue and Disaster Management through a notification directed all arrack, toddy and liquor shops, clubs, bars and restaurants serving liquor to remain closed for three days from April 11 in view of polls
  
This is to ensure a fair and peaceful election, a department notification said.
