Assembly polls: Key candidates in Tamil Nadu
Chennai: The battlelines are drawn as Tamil Nadu goes to polls. Polling will take place in 234 Assembly seats in the state.

Arch rivals AIADMK's Jayalalithaa and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi fight it out today after an acrimonious campaign.

Both camps have struck strong alliances - the Congress, PMK and the VCK are in the DMK-led alliance, while actor Vijayakanth's DMDK and the left parties have joined hands with the AIADMK.

Let's take a look again at the bigwigs whose fate will be decided today:

  • J Jayalalithaa: AIADMK chief and the party's Chief Ministerial candidate, contesting from Srirangam
  • M Karunanidhi: DMK chief and Chief Minister, contesting from Thiruvarur
  • M K Stalin: Karunanidhi's son and the deputy Chief Minister, will contest from Kolathur
  • Actor Vijaykanth of DMDK: An ally of Jayalalithaa, contesting from Rishivandhiyam
  • K V Thanga-balu: Congress strongman, contesting from Mylapore
