Bangalore:
Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC), a citizen's group that aims for better governance in Bangalore and to enhance the quality of life of every citizen, on Saturday announced a list of 14 candidates from across the political spectrum that it is endorsing for constituencies in the city.
The endorsement is based on various parameters, said B.PAC which committed to support the endorsed candidates by providing financial support, and requested its supporters to volunteer for the campaign for them, organise debates and media events by using social media to garner support.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, B.PAC Managing Trustee & President and also CMD of biotech major Biocon, said the list was finalised after due diligence of available records and B.PAC's own internal assessment of the candidates.
"We believe that the issues these candidates have promised to pursue, if elected, are well aligned with the immediate and long-term needs of Bangalore City. We would therefore like to urge Bangalore citizens to consider these candidates as they prepare to vote on May five," she said.
"The urban-educated middle class has for far too long been 'outsiders' when it comes to actively engaging in the political process. This has to change. It is now time for all of us to take active interest and be pro-actively engaged with our elected leaders and get them to share our vision for Bangalore", Ms Mazumdar-Shaw said.
B.PAC Vice-President T V Mohandas Pai said: "We believe B.PAC's initiative of endorsing candidates is the next step in the evolution of our democracy".
