In a short statement released to the press, Mamata Banerjee acknowledged her party's victory in the West Bengal elections. For the first time in more than 30 years, the state has voted out the Left.
"We are humbled...we are thankful...this is a moment of great joy and victory for the people of West Bengal," she said, "at this happy moment, we must pause to remember the martyrs who have been part of this struggle for three decades. We must honour and salute them.
