Bihar election results: Political reactions

Bihar election results: Political reactions
New Delhi: The JD(U)-BJP is set for a huge victory in the Bihar Assembly polls. Here are some of the political reactions:

Nitin Gadkari, BJP president

Voters have finished politics of casteism. Strengthened politics of development. This is an indicator for future of Indian politics. Performance better than what we expected. If all of us work together, then the miracle that we can have has been shown in Bihar. (Watch)

Arun Jaitley, Senior BJP leader

The election results have showed that politics of Bihar has changed and that "charisma or family" does not win elections. (Watch)

On Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi: We are proud of their leadership and the way they ran the coalition and government.

Ravi Shankar Prasad, BJP leader

Proud of being a Bihari today. My state notorious for caste divide, massacre today people voting beyond castes - beyond extremism, beyond Naxalism, beyond caste.

Bihar missed out on development in the last nearly 22 years. The kind of response I saw among young girls and their parents is a very positive fall out for India's politics.

On Narendra Modi at swearing-in he said: Who will come for swearing in is what government of Bihar will decide. Generally all CMs come.

Let us celebrate the victory right now.

I have worked with Lalu in JP movement. He emerged as charismatic figure in politics but went down the way of corruption. Message across that this kind of politics does not pay.

Sonia Gandhi, Congress president

I congratulate Nitish Kumar for his success. Didn't have much hope. Took deliberate decision not to work in alliance with other parties. Our party has to start from scratch and rebuild it. (Watch)

NK Singh, Rajya Sabha MP, JD(U)

This alliance has worked, it is here to stay. Overall it looks like it will be a stable government with a strong mandate. Platter of development what people of Bihar expect.

Clearly since gains of JD(U) and alliance seems to be spread evenly, does show that matrix of
development ruling over divides that's the message. Message accepted, vindicated by the public.

Jayanthi Natarajan, Congress Spokesperson

All credit to him (Nitish Kumar) for his success...law and order did improve under Nitish Kumar.

When we went alone for Bihar polls, we knew we were not going to form government in Bihar. It's not UP. Dynamics are different.

Looking to improve performance from last time. Would prefer to build up party in long run. Looking to build up proper Opposition base to Nitish Kumar.  Will keep building our own identity until we reclaim space in Bihar.

Always been desire of Congress worker that party should find its own space and reclaim identity.

Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP In-charge, Bihar

NDA had good campaign. Nitish Kumar our leader. Good, joint campaign. Simple strategy.

There are differences of opinion in political parties. But no confusion in this campaign. NDA was united.

We expected 160+. Heading towards it.

Prakash Javadekar, BJP Spokkesperson

The trends indicated that the people's mandate was for development, maintenance of law and order and good governance.

There is a new hope for Bihar. It reaffirms many political myths will go underground. The biggest myth is a
Congress resurgence. Congress is no longer relevant in any part of the country.

Shahnawaz Hussain, Senior BJP leader

The JD(U)-BJP combine will win the polls and said it will be a victory of the "reconstruction and development" of Bihar.

The question is not who is going to win. It is that development of Bihar is going to win, what reconstruction was done in Bihar is going to win, what we (NDA government) did in Bihar is going to win.

Nitish Kumar is the captain of the JD(U)-BJP combine, and the victory will be of the "team" and the "trophy" will certainly go to Kumar.

Shivanand Tiwari, JD(U) leader

The credit for the victory in the Bihar Assembly polls will "certainly" go to Nitish Kumar, as he is the "head" of alliance in the state.

The huge mandate given by the electorate is a challenge for us. People's hopes have gone up and we will try to live up to the expectations. (Watch)
