Noida:
The Congress and the BJP have fielded two doctors, both owners of hospitals, against each other in the Noida Assembly seat.
While Congress has fielded Dr V S Chauhan, chairman of Prakash Hospital, BJP fielded chairman of Kailash Group of Hospitals Dr Mahesh Sharma.
Sharma had fought the 2009 parliamentary elections but lost to the BSP candidate. However, he had secured more number of votes than his rival in the Noida segment.
Vouching on this factor, BJP announced his nomination for the assembly seat.
On the other hand, Congress decided to choose a doctor, who was among the five other candidates interviewed by general secretary Rahul Gandhi for the seat.
However, Chauhan's candidature is facing opposition from within the party. Congressmen today held meeting and claimed that the dedicated workers were denied ticket while Chauhan who had little role in the day to day working of the local wing took the seat.
"We have refused to accept Chauhan as Congress candidate.
We have sent our dissent letter to high command. We will not campaign for Chauhan," Congress leader Gautam Awana said.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party candidate Sunil Choudhary and BSP candidate Om Dutt Sharma began their electioneering in the constituency today.
