BJP's New Slogan in Jammu and Kashmir Elections: Mission 50+

BJP's New Slogan in Jammu and Kashmir Elections: Mission 50+

A BJP hoarding in Jammu city.

Jammu: Mission 50+ seems to be the BJP's new slogan for the forthcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The latest round of hoardings in Jammu city seemingly point to the revamped election message of the party.

The BJP, which had earlier coined the slogan 44+ - aiming for a simple majority in the 87-member assembly - has never been in power in the state.

The BJP had recorded its best-ever performance in the 2008 assembly elections, when it got 11 seats; the good show was attributed mainly to the polarisation caused by the Amarnath land row.

After coming to power at the Centre, and buoyed by its performances in the assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra, the party is now aiming for a win in Jammu and Kashmir.

Some high-profile leaders from other parties have also switched sides to the BJP. In August, former Congress Member of Parliament Lal Singh joined the party with his supporters in Kathua district, in the presence of party president Amit Shah.

And last week, National Conference leader Ajat Shatru Singh, son of Congress leader Karan Singh, joined the BJP.
