Home Minister Rajnath Singh arrives for the meeting of the party's Parliamentary board.
New Delhi:
The BJP Parliamentary Board held a meeting in New Delhi today evening to take major decisions on government formation, as it has emerged as the single-largest party in Maharashtra and looks set to capture power in Haryana.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party chief Amit Shah, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, among others.
The Parliamentary Board is expected to discuss Chief Ministerial candidates for both the states.
However, a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Party in both Haryana and Maharashtra will be held tomorrow to elect their leaders.
In Maharashtra, where the party may not get a majority, the BJP top brass will have to decide on whose support it will seek for government formation.
"We will see the final results and then decide. Our top leaders will decide on further action," said a senior BJP leader.
While some consider that the Shiv Sena is the natural choice for a tie-up again to form a government, the NCP could be the other option. Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has also not won enough seats for a tie-up.
Meanwhile, there was an atmosphere of celebration at the BJP headquarters at Delhi's Ashok Road where workers danced and burst crackers ahead of Diwali on the party's grand performance in the Assembly polls in Haryana and Maharashtra.
Party leaders termed this victory as that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity and his aggressive campaigning in the two states, besides the organisational skills of BJP President Amit Shah.
