Chennai: The Election Commission has advised District Collectors to postpone the weekly "Sandhai" day (Market) in many places which coincides with the April 13 polling date in Tamil Nadu.
In order to enable the voters to exercise their franchise, Collectors have been instructed to postpone "Sandhai" day to April 14, Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar said in a statement.
Necessary arrangements should be made by the respective Collectors to announce the change of "Sandhai" day, it added.
The word "Sandhai" refers to "market" where buyers and sellers meet at one place.
Tamil Nadu along with Kerala and Puducherry goes to polls on April 13.
