New Delhi:
With just five days to go before nominations close for the Maharashtra assembly elections, the Congress and NCP are busy in meetings to finalise the list of candidates who will contest the 288 seats.
The Congress has had two rounds of screening already to decide on candidates. The meeting is on at Sonia Gandhi's house in Delhi.
Have sorted out most of the problems, differences still remain over 3-4seats, these issues will be taken with the high command.
Besides the seat-sharing formula with the NCP, the Congress is battling another internal dilemma - of a large number of its top leaders in Maharashtra demanding seats for their children. The Congress is trying to enforce an unwritten policy of discouraging politicians from making dynastic claims during elections.
Amongst the politicians and senior leaders who are pitching for tickets for their children are Pratibha Patil, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Naryan Rane, Kripashankar Singh, Manikrao Thakre and Vilas Muttemwar - all for their sons, and Sushil Kumar Shinde for his daughter.
The final announcement is expected on Sunday.
