Pachilal Meda has been camping outside the building where the EVM machines have been kept.
Dhar:
With polling in Madhya Pradesh over on November 25, most of the politicians are taking a sigh of relief and are finally taking a break after a gruelling schedule of political campaigning and public relations activities for over a month.
But Congress candidate Pachilal Meda from Dharmpuri constituency has not yet called it a day.
Since the day Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs were brought to a government-run Polytechnic post polls for safe keeping till the counting day, Mr Meda has been camping outside it day and night and will continue to do so till December 8 as he fears the EVMs may be tampered with.
"Existing Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will continue to remain CM till December 8, so I fear that he may pressurise officials in the administration and the EVMs may be tampered. So I have camped here to keep a check on them," the sitting MLA from Dharmpuri told NDTV.
Mr Meda is not doing this for the first time. He had, in fact, camped after the 2008 polls as well.
The room in Dhar where the EVMs are kept is being guarded like a fort with 70-odd jawans from the central security forces, but that does not convince Mr Meda. He still chooses to attend to his visitors, has his meals and even sleeps outside the polytechnic college.
Surprisingly, the Election Commission too has a provision of allowing a candidate or his representative outside the room. And so Mr Meda has been given permission.
The elections in Madhya Pradesh this time has been very unpredictable especially after Congress brought Jyotiraditya Scindia as their state election campaign chairman. Even the BJP, which has been in power for two terms now, seems nervous as a sting by NDTV on the polling day at a booth in the backyard of the chief minister's house in Jait showed a BJP poll agent casting votes on behalf of voters. In such volatile situation it is but natural for the candidates to be nervous and cautious.
