Congress, NCP seat-sharing formula devised?

Mumbai: The alliance between the Congress and NCP for the Maharashtra assembly elections is almost final and the final numbers for the 288 seats, sources say, show that  NCP has given in.

According to sources, the Congress and the NCP have more or less agreed to a seat-sharing arrangement of 174-114.

This means the NCP could get 10 seats less than the last elections when the ratio was 164-124.

"Because of delimitation lot of our seats have changed, strong holds have changed, that is why we are talking about contesting less number of seats. Talks between the Congress and the NCP will finish in another day or two and we will arrive at a consensus" said Praful Patel, Civil Aviation Minister.

The focus is now more on discussing individual seats and deciding how to accommodate Independents.

The final picture will emerge later Wednesday evening, and an announcement is expected in Delhi on Thursday.

Leaders from both sides will meet at the Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan's residence from 11 am onwards. Meeting could go on till the evening.
