Lucknow:
The Election Commission has issued notice to BSP national general secretary and MP Satish Chandra Mishra for allegedly 'arousing caste feelings' during a rally in Chandauli district in Uttar Pradesh.
In the notice Election Commission secretary Narendra N Butolia has asked the BSP star campaigner to explain his position by February 12 as to why action should not be taken against him for violating the Model Code.
"It has come to the knowledge of the Commission that during his election campaign in Chandauli district on February 5, Mishra was openly appealing for votes arousing caste feelings by making repeated references to Brahmin and Dalit political combination and this has been widely covered in the media," the notice said.
"The Commission has viewed the video recordings of the meeting and is prima facie satisfied that Mishra, by appealing to vote arousing caste feelings, has violated the Model Code," it added.
